VANITAS is a sterling silver 925 bracelet inspired by vanitas symbolism, memento mori, and one of the oldest reminders of all:
time passes.
A succession of small silver skulls punctuates the chain like the beads of a rosary.
Some are grouped closely together.
Others stand apart.
The pattern repeats around the wrist, turning the bracelet into a quiet count of passing time.
VANITAS means “vanities”.
In the history of art, vanitas works are built around symbols that remind us of the fleeting nature of existence.
Skulls, extinguished candles, fading flowers, hourglasses and precious objects all serve the same purpose:
everything passes.
The skull is not simply a representation of death.
It becomes a memento mori.
A reminder of mortality and, by contrast, of the value of the time we are given.
VANITAS translates this symbolism into a bracelet.
The skulls are not simply arranged in a continuous line.
Their placement follows a deliberate rhythm inspired by the act of counting rosary beads: several elements grouped together, then a pause, one isolated element, another pause, before the cycle begins again.
This construction gives the bracelet an almost tactile quality.
It can be worn simply as a piece of jewelry, or the fingers can move from skull to skull, using each one as a physical marker.
The pattern follows a repeating 3 — 1 — 3 rhythm around the wrist.
Three skulls.
A pause.
One isolated skull.
Another pause.
